Pakistan’s prestigious and most-sought after journalism recognition, the AGAHI Awards, recognized 47 journalists for media excellence and ethics. A jury of national and international experts, development specialists, academicians and media professionals, evaluated the submissions made by journalists from print, television, radio and the online media.
Makhdoom Shahab-ud-Din won the “Journalist of the Year 2019” award in the Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights category. He was awarded for his story “Child Pornography in Pakistan: Reality or myth?” which was published in Daily Times on July 15, 2019. Makhdoom is an Islamabad based journalist and a social media influencer. He usually writes on issues which are considered a taboo in Pakistan. He has been writing for Daily Times since April, 2019. He has been associated with Hum News, PTV News and Roze News in the past. He studied journalism from Al Jazeera Media Institute, Anadolu Agency News Academy and Knight Center for Journalism. He was selected among top 100 young journalists from around the world by British Council, Scotland as well.
After receiving the award he emphasized on the importance of journalism as a tool to bring a positive change in the society and thanked Daily Times for giving him the opportunity to write on such topics.
